Correctly named 12721 Pte W Parker Bedf R

William lived on Church St, Corby, near Grantham.

William Parker served with the 8th Battalion Bedfords and went overseas to France in October 1915 earning himself a 1915 Star Trio. A wound report dated November 1916 and a note showing him being admitted into hospital October 1916.

Reading through the history of the 8th Bn, it appears they were fighting in the Battle of Transloy from the 10th of October so fairly confident to say this is where William was wounded. He was serving with B Company of the 6th Division at the time.

He received his wound from an explosive shell which caused damage to his left thigh, enough to force amputation below the knee.

Medal has an original silk ribbon attached. The stamping on the medal, although faint, is easy to read. (see pic)
