It was awarded for services setting up the British families education service in Germany in control commission for Germany post war

John had an interesting life as the paper work shows he was a master of Amesbury School Hinehead Surrey 1925 – 1926. He was Inspector of Schools 1927 to 1930 for the Gold Coast Education Department. Also, he was a Lieut in the Gold Coast Territorial Force as his original commission document shows. In 1930 he was invalided out of that service as physically unfit for service in the tropics, he then returned home and took up posts in various County Education posts. He joined the Control Commission for Germany in July 1946 and in 1949 was awarded the OBE for services to that body, he later became secretary of the British Board of Film Censors and a retirement party was given his honour in 1971
