A ww1 memorial plaque named to Tom Hutchinson.

Tom was born c1890 .

His father was a Blacksmith called Thomas and his mother Elizabeth had been totally blind since age of 8 .

In 1911 he was a gardener working at elmete Hall at roundhay.

In 1914 he was working at Bilton Hall near Harrogate , Yorkshire .

He joined up in 1915 and went to France with the 15th battalion West Yorkshire Regiment ( the Leeds pals) .

On 1st of July 1916 on the 1st day of the Somme offensive the Leeds pals went over the top and suffered heavy casualties .

Tom’s body was never found and he I commemorated on the thiepval  memorial.

His brother Albert had also died earlier in the war .

 

He was entitled to a 1915 trio the whereabouts of which are unknown .
