Correctly named 3911 Pte HV Simpson 5-Lond R

Horace Victor Simpson was born in August 1895.

His service papers exist so we know his fathers name, Albert, and an address, Cromer Lodge, Chesham Road, Brighton.

He volunteered for service which resumed from December 1915. His civilian trade is note3d as that of a draughtsman.

He served with the5th (City of London) (London Rifle Brigade) London Regiment with the service number 3911 and 302372.

He was to serve in France from January 1917.

Research tells us he was blown up by a shell in Bullicourt in March 1917 and again in March 1918 spending 4 and 25 days in hospital respectively.

He was compulsory transferred to the (1st London Field Company) Royal Engineers (TF) as a Sapper/Draughtsman/Surveyor in December 1917. Here he held the service number 547693.

Discharged from service in January 1919 suffering with shellshock, he was awarded the Silver War Badge numbered B125702 (not present).

He is entitled to a WWI Pair for his wartime service.

The medal has an original silk ribbon.
