He enlisted in the South Lancashire Regiment 1891 at Warrington as 3433.

He served

Home until September 1892

Malta September 1892 to February 1893

Egypt February 1893 to February 1895

India February 1895 to February 1899

Home February 1899 to November 1899

South Africa November 1899 to June 1902

He earned QSA Tugela Heights/Relief Of Ladysmith/Orange Free State/Transvaal and 2 clasp KSA

He moved to the reserves in 1903 and was discharged in 1908

He re-enlisted in 1914 into the 10th Battalion Rifle Brigade

And was killed on 2nd November 1915 when his dugout collapsed burying him (papers of enquiry etc survive online)
