Alfred was born Preston Lancashire 24th November 1900 .

A factory hand by occupation, he joined the Royal Navy in 1918 as J84670

He was renumbered SS120397 post WW1.

He and 4 others all died on 30th November 1919 attached to HMS Silvio.

He is listed as drowned in River Tamar and is buried at Plymouth Ford Park Cemetery aged just 19 years old .

His parents Alfred and Catherine Cotton lived at 12 Peel Place Burley in Wharfdale, Leeds, Yorkshire.
