An interesting British War Medal to an officer I the tank corp who served on the Western Front.

On original ribbon named to 2 lieut h chattell .

Herbert was born in Islington c1886 .

1911 census a commercial traveller staying with sister at 87 mantilla Rd,  tooting .

He joined the Honorable Artillery Company as pte 4658 I November 1915 .

And entered France June 1916 .

He was wounded 3 times whist serving on the somme.

Bullet wound head November 13th 1916 beaucourt.

Shrapnel wounded foot 8th February 1917 balescourt Farm.

Gunshot Wound Right knee 26th February 1917 .

He was sent home March 1917 no doubt to recover from his wounds .

He was commissioned into 3rd battalion tank corp in June 1918 as 2nd Lieutenant.

Serving I France with them from September 1918 to January 1919 .

Address given as 35 Norfolk Rd Brighton Sussex.

There is a picture available of him in later life on ancestry .

More research needed but a rare medal to a confirmed tank corp officer who served in France albeit late in the war .
