Lieutenant Colonel charles arthur Swan was born as aswardby ,Spilsby., Lincolnshire 3rd October 1854 .
1881 living at sausthorpe in Lincolnshire.
He studied at Oxford and commenced studies for the bar but then joined the Royal North Lincolnshire militia ( later the 3rd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment) serving as their Commanding officer and later as their Honorary Colonel , the Battalion saw service in the Boer War for which he was awarded his cmg as well as earning the qsa with 2 clasps .
He was a justice of the peace for 55 years and chairman of Spilsby bench from 1919 to 1936 .
Charles was instrumental in work with the Spilsby hospital erected in memorial to his mother .
