1914 Star named to MAJOR GN CARTWRIGHT RFA
Brigadier General Garnier Norton Cartwright, was born on 07 May 1868, the son of Robert and Flora.
He joined the Royal Artillery on 17th Feb 1888 and became Lieutenant 17th February 1891, Captain 1st July 1898, and Major 9th December 1903.
In 1911, we see him as a resident of the Metroplole Hotel in Brighton and a Captain in the Army.
Major Cartwright served in the European War from 1914 and later became Lieutenant-Colonel 30th October 1914.
Served with the 55th Battery Royal Field Artillery. He was temporary Brigadier General, Royal Artillery 1st Division, BEF, British Armies in France from 15th October 1915 to 19th October 1917.
He married Isabel, daughter of the late TJ Masters of Llannelly Hall, Llantrisant in 1909 and we see him living in Tipperary as a Major, RFA in 1911.
A picture dated 1915 shows him as Commanding Officer of the 61st Howitzer Brigade while thy were in Frensham.
He died in 1924 and is buried at Ixworth, Suffolk. There is a memorial tablet at St.Mary’s church, Ixworth, Suffolk.

Arrived in France 23/08/1914, entitled to clasp, British War and Victory Medals would have been named: BRIG GEN according to his MIC
He is entitled to an India General Service Medal, 1897 Jubilee and 1903 Delhi Durbar. Information gleened from the previous sale elsewhere of his miniatures online.
His son Brigadier Richard Norton Cartwright, 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, died 1st July 1944 aged 30yrs. Buried Chittagong War Cemetery.
