Interesting group of 3 medals to a soldier in Highland Light Infantry.

India General Service Medal 1895 with Punjab Frontier 1897-98 clasp **RENAMED **3743 pte m Quinn hli .

Queens south Africa medal with wittebergen & Modder River clasps . correctly named 3743 pte m quinn 1  high lt inf . Nice clear ghost dates .

Kings south Africa medal correctly named 3743 pte m quinn Highland l I.

Michael quinn was born c1872 at ayr Scotland.

He joined the Highland Light infantry at Hamilton on 1st September 1890 a labourer by occupation.

He had previous service in 2nd volunteer battalion royal scots fusiliers .

The medal roll initially lists him on the roll for igs he is then crossed out and its noted did not proceed beyond jallala meaning he was ineligible for the Award obviously he thought himself entitled so acquired the medal and had it named in very nice style engraving .

The other 2 medals are confirmed as are the clasps.

His next of kin address is father Michael 34 Wellington Street , Ayr.

He served 12 years 43 days with the colours being discharged 18th September 1902 .

He was apparently well known round ayr and often wore the medals .
