Frederick was born c1866 outside Newcastle under Lyme in Staffordshire, a labourer by occupation.
He joined the Cheshire Regiment at Chester 9th August 1884 aged 18 years .
Previous service in 3rd North Staffordshire regt ( militia ) .
He served at home / Egypt / East indies / India and home .
Briefly discharged in 1896 he rejoined and went out to South Africa to participate in the Anglo boer war.
He was awarded the 3 clasps inc and on a separate roll the 1901 clasp which was probably sent after and he never had it mounted as is often the case .
He was finally discharged 6th August 1901 time expired and paid a £5 war gratuity.
Named to 1135 pte f Gill Cheshire regt .
