Correctly named 4239 Pte TE Jones 3rd Hussars
Thomas Edward Jones was born in Wolverhampton c1882. He enlisted in September 1900 as an 18 year old labourer. His address at that time was 13 Vine Street, Hanley, Staffs.
He was posted to India in October 1901 and then to South Africa in January 1902. His service papers confirm the award of the four clasps. South Africa 1901/1902, Transvaal and Orange Free State. He is noted as being a clerk at Brigade Staff for 2 years. This medal being his sole issue for his first period of engagement which ended in 1907, the same year, his papers show him wounded by a dog bite.
In 1912, we find him moved to Canada. His address there was 85 Carrier St, East Montreal.
We next find that the he re-enlists into the 15th Hussars in Scarborough and is headed overseas to France with them in January 1915. He was living then in Congleton, Cheshire.
His medal entitlement would also include a 1915 Trio (not present)
