John was born St Paul’s, Canterbury 15th June 1892 .

A hotel porter by occupation.

He enlisted at York on 21st July 1911 .

John served in the Chatham Division RMLI.

According to his record he served from Jan 1915 to April 1916 on board HMS Crescent,(his record records prize bounty for sinking of SMS Blucher , as it was sunk at the Battle of Dogger Bank. We assume he was present)

John was awarded his Long Service Good Conduct Medal in March 1926 .

He retired in February 1932 at the termination of his second period of engagement.

He joined the Military Police on 1st March 1932
