Ernest Samuel was born in 1892 to Samuel and Jane in Norwich.
We find the family in 1901 living at 24 Churchill Road, Norwich.
He enlisted into the Royal Marines in 1907. His records state he was underaged until 1910. He was working as a barbers assistant at that time.
We see in 1911, he is serving with the Mediterranean Fleet as a marine.
He married Edith M Wild in 1914.
Throughout his career he served aboard HMS Minerva, Formidable, Glory, Aboukir, Sutlej, Marshall Ney, Lord Clive, Blonde, Endeavour and Dragon.
His WWI service seems to have been served with the Nore Force as well as the Dover Patrol. He spent a lot of his wartime service aboard the Monitors Marshall Ney and Lord Clive.
He was awarded his LSGC in 1925.
He left the service in December 1926.
We see in 1929 that he married Louisa Sophia Mullinger Mace in 1929.
In 1939, living with Louisa, we see Ernest working as a caretaker for the Kings School and living at Macklan Building Precinct in Rochester. It is also noted that he is also an ARP Warden.
Ernest died in 1961 and is buried at Chatham Palmerston Road Cemetery.
The medals have been court mounted on card for display with modern replacement ribbons.
