British War Medal  is an erased ( not by us ) gapfiller sadly the original probably sold for scrap long ago.

John ernest mossop was born 7th November 1884 at Blackburn , Lancashire.

A weaver by occupation he enlisted 9th November 1902 and served on several ships.

He was killed in action on board hms Goliath  aged 31 ,during the Gallipoli / Dardanelles Campaign.

Hms goliath was sunk 13th May 1915 when hit by 3 torpedoes from the ottoman Turkish destroyer muavenet I milliye.

There were 570 casualties.

Johns next of kin was cousin Emma a Haworth of 118 St Stephens Rd Preston.
