Alexander gilmour Drummond was born at Ibrox in Glasgow in 1894 .

He joined the 17th Glasgow chamber of commerce battalion hli and entered France with thr 22nd November 1915 .

The battalion was heavily involved in attack on the leipzig Salient on 1st day of the Battle, Alexander being wounded during the battle in July.

Commissioned 2nd lieut with 3rd battalion royal Highlanders ( black watch ) and attached to the 6th perthshire battalion.

Whist with the 6th he was awarded the Military cross for gallantry see attached picture of citation probably awarded for Passchendaele.

Still serving with the 6th he was seriously wounded at the Battle of lys in 1918 and taken prisoner, he sadly died of his wounds as a POW being buried at cologne cemetery 5th April 1918 aged just 23 years old.

Sadly the British War medal being an erased replacement we can only assume his original was mislaid or scrapped in the intervening years since ww1 or perhaps is still out there for a possible reunion in the future .
