Correctly named 340120 Pte SJ Davidson North’d Fus

Samuel John Davidson was born in 1886 to John & Jane and we find his first address in 1901 as 6 Tynemouth Rd, Byker and is working as an apprentice writer. By 1911, he has moved to Carville Rd as a lodger and is working as a Lithographer.

By the time he enlists he is working at the Armstrong Whitworth & Walker Shipyard as a labourer. He is now living at 231 Conyers Road.

He enlists into the Northumberland Fusiliers in November 1914 although the rolls neglect to tell us the Battalion. He serves at home until July 1917 when he goes overseas to France until May 1918. He suffered from rheumatism and this is most likely when he transferred to the Labour Corps, (105 Company, Eastern Command Labour Centre). He is then discharged, being issued a Silver War Badge numbered 472515 (not present).

On original silk ribbons.
