Sidney was born Stoke St Gregory Somerset about 1889

His trade a plate layer on Great Western Railway at Taunton Somerset

He asked to join the Royal Engineers Railway Troops.

He was initially in the Devon Regiment he served in France from 15th June 1916 – 3rd of October 1917  being wounded GSW in the abdomen on 22/09/17 he served in 5th Labour/12th Labour and 12th Labour Battalions

Sent home, he was transferred into 152 Company Labour Corps then 304th Company at the Great Western Railway Engineering Dept at Taunton. He was discharged 6th March 1919
