Hubert was born in Leeds in 1884 and it is noted in his records that by the time he signed up, he was a widower with a young child. He went to France in December 1914 therfore making him eligible for a 1915 Star (missing).

In 1917, He is based at Boulogne Base depot with the Royal Engineers Postal Section.

The BWM is on a modern ribbon whereas the Victory ribbon looks original.
