William was born in 1896 at Condover Shropshire, on the 1911 Census he is shown living with his parents and siblings at Rorrington, Chirbury, Shropshire. Occupation gardener

He initially joined the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry in 1915 being discharged after 28 days unlikely to be an efficient soldier

He enlisted 2nd March 1916 in the Royal Fusiliers and later transferred to Labour Corps under number 379495. He was discharged from 744 Coy Labour Corps on 24th April 1919

His address now being 81a Longden, Coleman, Shrewsbury. Papers survive online
