A very interesting group consisting of

1939 star / Atlantic star & war medal with MID emblem all unnamed as issued.

Naval General Service Medal with minesweeping 1945-51 clasp awarded to a / lt cdr s l stammwitz rnvr . ( Couple ek )

Stuart latham stammwitz  was born 1909 he worked as a technical assistant at the department of zoology of the natural history museum along side his father Percy stammwitz.

He went to America as sub lieut rnvr arriving at Newyork on 1st December 1941 on-board the sourabaya classed as a diplomat .

In October 1942 he was attached to Hms venture .

February 1944 Hms President sub lieut .

Later in 1944 acting lieut commander hms tadousac a Bangor class minesweeper.

He was commander of Hms fancy ( j308 ) from 26th February 1945 to Sept 1945 .

And Hms Rowena ( j384) sept to November 1945 .

He died in 1979 his address given as 16a woodlands ,meadowlands caravans , Addlestone,  Surrey.  A retired senior experimental officer.


Many of the displays at the time he was working at the museum were by him and his father there are some copy photos of him working on them in alongside gazette entry for his museum appointment and mention in despatches.


Definitely worthy of more research.
