Correctly named 25396 A L Cpl WE Pierce RE

William Ernest Pierce hailed from the New Cross area.

‘Already serving in the Army in August 1914, he was retained on important duties with his unit at various stations. Later he proceeded to the Western Front where he served with distinction at the Battles of Arras, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele and Cambrai as well as throughout the Retreat and Advance of 1918.

He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in the field. Discharged on his return home in February 1919′

Extracted from the National Roll of the Great War.

The roll states he holds the BWM and Victory but his MIC has him serving overseas in France from 22/6/1915 so therefore entitled to a 15 Star Trio.

He served with the 70th Field Company Royal Engineers.

His address was 42 Clifton Hill, New Cross, SE 14.
