William was born in Ferryhill, Durham in 1868.

We find him in 1901 living in the parish of Ryhope, Sunderland with his wife Mary Ethel at 2 Wellfield Terrace. He is noted as being a clerk/storekeeper.

He married Mary Ethel Elliot in 1897.

In 1911, he is working as a caretaker at the Technical college in Sunderland.

He served in the Royal Fusiliers then transferred over to the RAMC with the service number 134833.

He was discharged from the RAMC in 1919 and an address for his is listed as Willow House, Burnopfield, Co Durham.

In 1939, we find him living 3 Wayland Square, Sunderland and is now a schools janitor.

William died in Sunderland in 1947.
