Herbert John was born to William and Jane in Bentley, Ipswich in 1884.

Following his father into the Malsters trade, we catch up with them living at 15 Station Road, Bentley in November 1915 when Herbert enlists.

He first enlists into the 2nd Garrison Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment with the service number 29641. They were based at Felixstowe at that time.

He transfers to the Military Foot Police in May 1916.

Post war in 1921, he marries May McPherson.

In 1939, we find them living at 9 King Edward Road in Ipswich and Herbert is now a foreman malster.

Herbert died in 1952.

The medal has a modern replacement ribbon.
