Correctly named Capt ORG Evans
Oswald Richard George Evans was born to Charles and Ellen in Southwark in August 1882.
We find the family in 1901 living at 97 Loughborough Park in Lambeth with Oswald working as an auctioneers clerk.
In 1911, he is with his mother and siblings at ‘Kenley’, Heybridge Avenue in Streatham Common and is now an estate agent.
Having enlisted into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, we see he was made a temporary Lieutenant in January 1915 (LG 26/1/1915). Oswald was sent to France in April 1915 earning himself a 1915 Star Trio.
We see he is recorded as suffering from shellshock in 1917.
He was to become a temporary Captain in November 1918. (LG 22/11/1918).
Later promoted to Major, LG 27/2/1922.
He applied for his medals in 1920 and his address given is the same as 1911.
By 1921, he has moved to 30 Oakdale Road in Streatham and is still working as an estate agent/auctioneer and working for himself.
He married Alice Maud Riggs in 1937 and is also noted that year in the London Gazette (6/8/1937) on the Regular Army Reserve of Officers as a Major.
We see in 1939, he is now at 33 Brunswick Square in Hove, Sussex and still an auctioneer. He is also still listed on the Army Reserve of officers as a Major.
Oswald died in 1966.
We were lucky to find online a photograph of Oswald in uniform.
The medal has an original silk ribbon.
