Correctly named 307221 Pte EJ Murphy Tank Corps

Edward John Murphy was born in Poplar, Middlesex in 1888.

A trained plumber, he married Elizabeth Twaites in 1914.

He enlisted into the Royal Engineers in June 1917.

He was compulsory transferred to the 15th Battalion Tank Corps in January 1918.

Along the way, he became a qualified sheet metal worker.

He was sent overseas to France in July 1918. The 15th Bn Tank Corps were involed in August at the Battle of Amiens.

Edward suffered an injury whilst following a tank out of a battle, he jumped over a trech but the ground gave way and he injured his foot.

In 1921, we find him living at 22 Broadway, Bexley Heath, here he is seen to be working as a gas fitter.

By 1939, he had moved to 54 Palmeira Road in Bexley Heath and still is working as a gas fitter.

Edward died in 1962.

He is entitled to a WWI Pair.

The medal has a modern replacement ribbon and also comes with a modern staybrite KGV Tank Corps cap badge.
