John william Thompson was born at Houghton-le-Spring Durham.

He started service with Durham li as 37038 .

He was serving near bullencourt with his unit the 25th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, the tyneside irish when he was killed in action on 21st March 1918 the 1st day of German spring offensive ( operation Michael).

He is commemorated on Arras memorial and in Irelands memorial register ( see last picture for the digital only image ).
