Nice framed certificate for the award of the 1937 Coronation Medal for King George VI
Awarded to William Taylor Head, Shipwright 1st class.
William was born to Amos and Kate in Devonport in 1897.
We see the family in 1911 living at Somerset Cottages in Devonport.
He enlisted to serve with the Royal Navy in 1913. His service number was M6454.
As a shipwright, he served all of WWI at the Devonport Dockyard. He was present at the Surrender of the High Seas Fleet with HMS Bellerophon in November 1918. Later in service, postwar, he did serve on HMS Impregnable and HMS Constance.
He married Caroline Deacon in 1920.
In 1925, he was serving aboard Motor Launch 291, a 75ft anti submarine vessel.
He saw out his service at dockyards at HMS Dartmouth and HMS Ambrose.
He earned a WWI Pair for his service and was awarded his LSGC in 1931.
In 1939, we see him living at 16 St Barnabus Terrace in Plymouth and it is noted he is an RN Pensioner Shipwright, Iron & Wood.
William died in 1968.
The medal has its original silk ribbon. The frame is in great condition, could benefit with a clean.
