Born April 1900 at Salford in Lancashire William Mcdonald Gill enlisted in the territorial army in February 1926 initially into the Lancashire Fusiliers.
He was awarded his territorial Efficiency Medal in 1939 as part of the Royal engineers anti aircraft unit .
It seems he served in the British expeditionary force being awarded the 1939 star and war medal he was deemed to be class w territorial reserve 17th February in 1940 so was probably added to the reserve due to his age .
