Correctly named Amos Kitley

Born in 1870 in Cheddar, we find Amos in 1901 living at 76 West St, Axbridge with his wife Mary. He is seen to working as a labourer.

In 1911, now living on Cheddar Road, Axbridge, Amos is still married and now is a butchers labourer.

Although a constable, it seems Amos had his own run ins with the Magistrates. Between 1897 and 1900, we see him in court being fined for neglecting to send his children to school, trespassing and non payment of arrears.

There is an ‘Amos Kidley’ in the 39 Register living in 147 Jubilee Road, Axbridge and is a fruit grower. This is most probably our man also.

He was awarded his Long Service Medal in October 1935. Amos died in 1955.

Its nice to be able to place these medals as it so often is near impossible.

Medal has aged original silk ribbon.
