James Reginald Wilson was born Yelverton, nr Plymouth,  Devon 10th december 1893 .

1901 aged 7 living at 20 Hyde Park Road,  Charles,  Plymouth  , youngest of 5 children.

1911 aged 16 father running the devon torrs Hotel at Yelverton.

James moved to Australia aged 20 .

Enlisted aged 22  single  a farmer by occupation living at welshpool  , gippsland , Victoria,  Australia.

 

29th december 1915 in 2nd field artillery brigade,  16th Reinforcement aif posted to b company 23rd depot battalion 5th January 1916 .

Then joined artillery training school at tel el kebir .

Sent England 1st August 1916 .

D battalion artillery training depot Bulford 4th September 1916 .

Awol for  2 days late October 1916 ( 4 days detention and forfeited 6 days pay ) .

6th to 13th December 1916fargo military hospital with influenza.

France 31st December with 23rd field artillery brigade .

Died 2nd December 1918 at torrs Hotel  , Yelverton  , Devon,  of influenza and bronco pneumonia.

According to his father he returned home a nervous shattered wreck .

And told his father he had been twice gassed once wounded though never revealed where when or how .

He is buried St Peters churchyard,  Meavy,  Devon.
