Correctly named 75719 Pte E Helliwell Manch R

Eardley was born to William and Elizabeth in 1884 in Cragg Vale, Calderdale, Yorkshire.

He married Edith Smith in 1912. 

Prior to enlistment he worked as a twiner minder within the cotton industry.

He was to enlist in 1915 and served with the 1st, 2nd and 7th Bns but it was with the 21st (6th City) that he went overseas with in September 1918.

His known address during his service is noted as 54 Orchard Street, Royton, Oldham.

In 1939, he is living at 14 Orchard Street and again working as cotton twiner minder. It is also recorded he was a Special Constable.

Eardley died in 1956.

The medal has a modern replacement ribbon.
