A nice example of the 1882 dated Egypt Medal
Correctly named 799 Pte W Whitehead 1/S Staff R
The 1st Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, was involved in significant events during its service in Egypt in 1882. They were the first British Army unit to land in Egypt after the bombardment of Alexandria and played a crucial role in the operations that succeeded. The battalion’s actions in Egypt were part of a broader campaign to lift the Siege of Khartoum in Sudan, where they were involved in the defeat of Arab forces at Kirbekan. The battalion’s service in Egypt was marked by its active participation in the operations that led to the successful British evacuation of Khartoum.
The medal has a modern replacement ribbon.
