The Dunkirk Medal.

The Dunkirk medal is an unofficial bronze award the commemorate the defence of the town by allied forces during Operation Dynamo between 29th of May and 3rd of June 1940

Above is a Militia group with Dunkirk medal certificate and father’s WW1 trio to the McKittrick family it is currently available on the website

Instituted in 1960 initially for French recipients only in 1970 with approx 30000 issued it was extended to any allied forces who took part in Operation Dynamo the defence and evacuation of Dunkirk and the surrounding areas including members of the BEF RAF Royal Navy and crew of the little ships used to ferry troops out to the waiting ships

The medal depicts the arms of Dunkirk a fish and a lion passant on shield mounted on an anchor
