Correctly named A Quelch GSR MFA

Looking through the records we have for shipping crews, A Quelch comes up twice.

One is Alexander Sargeant Quelch, born in Genoa, Italy. We are discounting him as he became a ships 3rd officer.

The second is Arthur Quelch although he is seen to be a fireman.

The research for Arthur:

Born in Ryde, Isle of Wight in February 1884, we find him living in 1911 at Saxon Cottage, 3 Kent Street, Oakfield, Ryde.

In 1913 we see him as a ships fireman aboard the Shemara with a previous ship noted as the Arlanza.

Medal rolls tell us he was a fireman aboard SS George at the time his medals were awarded.

He married Alice Binyon in 1916.

In 1921, we find him living with his wife at 10 Milligan Road, Ryde, and working as a general labourer.

He is still there in 1939 and still finding employment as a labourer.

The medal has an original silk ribbon.
