He enrolled in Royal naval reserve 11th August 1914 as chief engineman at time living at 22 Sheffield Rd, Gorleston.
He served later in war on board Halcyon 2 a fishing trawler under Admiralty command .
He was discharged 23rd December 1918 .
1939 a fitters mate / marine engineer living at great yarmouth.
