Charles Joseph was born in 1893 in Brighton to Joseph and Gertrude.

We find him in 1911 living with his parents at 6 Cannon Street, Brighton and working as a wine porter.

He enlisted to serve with the 28th Divisional Signal Company Royal Engineers and his service reckons from September 1914.

He was initially sent to France in January 1915 but returned in November 1916 when he was sent to Salonica.

In 1921, we find him back at his home address and working as a fireman for the London/Brighton South Coast Railways.

Later in 1921, he married Ellen Ansell.

In 1939, still a railways fireman, he is seen now to be living at Keswick Lorne Road, Dorchester.

Charles died in 1980.

Also included with the lot is an engraved silver cigarette case. Engraved CJL (with hallmarks)

The medals have original long silk ribbons.
