John was born in Wigan to Samuel and Susannah in 1895.

He enlisted in May 1915. He also served with the Yorkshire Regiment with the service number 35439 and the Manchester Regiment with the service number 45275.

We find John was captured whilst serving with the 1/5th Bn Yorkshire Regiment. Records show date of capture as 5/9/1918. The Yorks were in the vicinity of Armentieres/Aschen during this period.

Another service number for the Yorkshire Regiment is recorded as 45875.

His repatriation form show him to be wounded. He suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and arm.

A later address for him is noted as 74 Poolstock, Wigan.

He was awarded a Silver War Badge (not present) numbered B19139. He is entitled to a Pair.

After his repatriation, John suffered with disease, one can speculate due to wounds. He died on the 11th of June 1920 and is buried at Lower Ince Cemetery, Makerfield.
