Correctly named 59918 Pte JC Knott NZEF
Joseph Crosby Knott was born to Joseph and Elizabeth in Leeds in 1876.
In 1901, we find him living at 48 Fountain Road, Sculcoates, Yorkshire, as a boarder and working as an engineer.
He enlisted for service in February 1917 into the Reserve Battalion/Wellington Regiment. Records now have his trade as a farm hand.
He was posted to France in February 1918 with the 1st Battalion Wellington Regiment but two weeks later he joined the 2nd Battalio, Wellington Regiment.
The Wellington Regiment were highly active in 1918 fighting in the Spring Offensive and the Advance to Victory.
Joseph was killed in action on the 30th of August 1918 aged 42.
He is buried at Bancourt British Cemetery in Pas De Calais.
The medal has an original silk ribbon.
