Ernest was born Ernest Halliwell in Chelsea 1881, his family shortly afterwards changed their name to Porter. His father Thomas was a valet
He enlisted in 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade 16th April 1898
He served 5766 A/Cpl E Porter in Boer War
Adm 10th Bde FH 30/4/00 to 6/5/00, diarrhoea
Then later several more admissions with dysentery and s c fever
He was awarded a QSA clasps Transvaal Laings Nek and Orange Free State and a KSA SA 1901 & 1902
He was disc 15th April 1910 terminated 1st period ltd engagement
He then became a schoolmaster and Sgt in D squadron Glamorgan Yeomanry
He was commissioned into 1/1 Glamorgan Yeomanry 28th April 1915 and sent to Egypt
He again was hospitalised several times with pyrexia malaria and rheumatism being sent home to recover on board the ship Braithwaite Hall

Post war he was appointed to work under Civil Service of Canada in the 1930s
A nice bBWM to a chap who saw service in 2 campaigns and is worthy of further research, hopefully his other medals are out there for reunite
