Robert William Starling was born to Arthur and Eliza in 1883 and hailed from Middlesborough.
In 1911, he was working as a dock labourer for NER (North Eastern Railways)
His address at the time of enlistment is noted as 22 Disraeli Street, Middlesborough. He was working as a coal trimmer in Middlesborough.
He enisted in July 1916 and served with the 1st Battalion.
Based in India throughout WWI, Robert is entitled to just the BWM for war service and not a Pair.
He was awarded his IGS with Afghanistan NWF 1919 clasp in October 1921.
He married Lily Brigham in 1938 and in 1939, we see them living at 49 Letitia Street in Middlesborough with him working as a labourer.
Robert died in 1943.
