Eli was born at balmain in New South Wales,Australia.

A labourer by occupation,  he lived at thornleigh Nsw.

He was fined £2 at Central police Court December 22nd 1915 for attempting to steal .

He was discharged after 4 months service for riotous behavior .

He must then have returned home and then rejoined .

He embarked aboard hmat a38 ulysses 19th December 1917 .

He was noted as killed in action 23rd August 1918 according to his records   being shot through the head by machine-gun fire and killed instantly at polygon wood Belgium.

 

There are several printed out  sheets relating to his service and several eyewitness accounts of his death that took place during an attack on bray .
