Born in the All Saints parish of Nottingham in 1894, we first find Stephen living 47 Southey Street, Notts. He is seen to be working as a lacer worker. By 1911, he has moved to 12 Lake Street, Notts and this year he enlists into the South Nottingham Hussars.
At the outbreak of WW1, he remains at home until April 1915 when he sets of for Alexandria. He lands on Suvla Bay on the 14th of August 1915.
He suffers from enteritis and is hospitalised in Mudros on the 25th September 1915. He is in hospital a further 3 times until he is discharged as time expired and heads back to England on HT Arcadia on 30/1/1916.
He has two Medal Index Cards. One shows the issue of the 15 Star Trio which is correct, landing in the Egyptian Theatre 26/4/1915. His other MIC just shows a pair.
He has a service number also for the MGC, 16457.
He served with the 1/1 Nottingham Yeomanry whisch is the South Notts Hussars.
We find him in 1939 as a Traveller/Hairdresser living at 578 Bridge Road, Nottingham.
Stephen died in 1971 in Mansfield.
