Correctly named 18797 Pte C Guy York R

Charles was born in 1884 to John and Mary in Seaham, County Durham.

He married Sarah Jane Graham in 1910.

In 1911 we find him living at 46 Frances Street, Seaham, Co Durham and working as a collier.

He attested for service in December 1914.

Eventually serving with the 3rd, 6th and 7th Battalions, it was with the 6th that he went overseas to Gallipoli in September 1915.

The 6th Bn were already engaged in fighting at Kiretch Tepe.

He stayed in Gallipoli until their evacuation and arrived in France in July 1916.

He was discharged from the 3rd Battalion due to bronchitis. He is entitled to a Silver War Badge numbered 2213440 (not present).

In 1939, working as a colliery unground staoreman, he is now living at 41 Straugways Street in County Durham.

Charles died in 1956.

All medals have modern replacement ribbons.
