All correctly named 2233 Pte J Holmes Lanark Yeo
John embarked for Egypt in September 1915 and landed at ‘W’ Beach, Cape Helles, Gallipoli on 11 October 1915, where his unit – the 1/1st Lanarkshire Yeomanry – was attached to 52nd (Lowland) Division. It subsequently saw action in ‘The Vineyard’ and ‘Horseshoe’ sectors on the Eski Line and suffered heavy casualties, so much so that its ranks had to be reinforced by the 1/1st Ayrshire Yeomanry in December 1915.
He also served in the Machine Gun Cavalry and Machine Gun Infantry with the service number 130900.
