Correctly named 59918 Pte JC Crosby NZEF
Joseph Crosby Knott was born to Joseph and Elizabeth in 1876.
In 1901 we find him living at 48 Fountain Road in Sculcaotes, Yorkshire, and working as an Engineer.
He enlisted for service in January 1917 into the Reserve Battalion of the Wellington Regiment NZEF when his profession is noted as that of a farm hand.
He was sent to France with the on the 14th of February 1918 where the next day he transferred to the 1st Bn Wellington Regiment and earning himself the entitlement of a WWI Pair.
He transferred into the 2nd Bn Wellingtons on the 28th of February 1918.
He was killed in action on the 5th of September 1918 and is buried at Bancourt British Cemetery.
The medal has an original silk ribbon.
