Frank was born in Cleckheaton to James and Eliza in 1884. We find the family in 1911 living at 115 High Street, Heckmondwike and note Frank working as a shop assistant in a gentleman’s outfitters.

He married Lillian Thomas in 1913 and was to move to Field House in Kippax, Leeds.

Frank served with the 15th Battalion, 2nd Birmingham Pals, Royal Warwickshire Regiment and served in France. On rolls, it is also noted he served with the 2nd Battalion. He is ranked as a Drummer.

The Battalion had moved to Festubert in the October of 1916 and remained there until March 1917 when they moved in preparation for the Battle of Arras.

On the 4th of March 1917, the Battalion were in the Givenchy Sub Section and were testing the length of time taken to reach the German front lines when they were attacked by German machine gun fire. There was some intermittent artillery exchanges throughout the day from one side of the canal to the other. The day ended with one casualty, Frank.

Frank is buried at Browns Road Military Cemetery, Festubert.

The medals have original silk ribbons though these have been stuck to card at some point and have the remnant of card still attached.
