Percy was born to Thomas and Elizabeth in Oldbury in November 1896.
Percy’s father died when he was young and has passed away when we see the family in 1911 and Percy working in a tube works.
His papers show him to be living at 3 Portway Road, Oldbury, Worcestershire when he enlisted.
He enlisted into the RNVR and was mobilized in June 1917. He went to France in October 1917 earning his medal pair. He was with Nelson Battalion at that time.
We see in early 1918 he suffered mild trench foot and frostbite,
On late 1918 he had transferred to Hawke Battalion and it is noted he suffered multiple shell wounds on the 30th of September 1918. This hadn’t kept him from service as we see on the 10th of October 1918, records tell us he was dangerously wounded by gunshot to the leg. Hawke Battalion were heavily involved at the Battle of Cambrai at this time.
He is seen to be invalided back to the UK on the 16th of October and the records show the decision to amputate was given in June 1919.
He was to marry Clara Green in 1929.
In 1939, we see him living at 39 Rowley Lane in Rowley Regis. He is working as an examiner in a seamless steel tank factory.
Percy died aged 50 in 1947.
The medals have modern replacement ribbons.
