Correctly named 32660 Pte E Hollas LN Lan R
Eli was born to William and Mary in 1898. Research gets confusing as he is sometimes known as Hollows.
In 1911, we see the family in 3 Bank lane in Pendleton.
Eli enlisted into the 1st Bn Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in August 1916 and it is noted he was working as a chemists assistant at that time.
At some point, he transferred to the 2/4th Bn of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and retained his service number. Through our research, we see he received a GSW to his left thigh.
Following diaries for the 2/4th Bn, we find them in Belgium, they were involved in heavy fighting whilst trying to cross the Escaut River. We know that on the 25th of October 1918, Eli was struck and the diaries tell us that at 0530 that morning a bomb was dropped on their lines and at 0630 it was followed by a shrapnel bomb.
Later that day at 1800, they were to regroup at Rouages in Belgium. It turned out to be their final action of WWI.
Eli returned to the UK to his parents address, 33 Peter Street, Brindle Heath, Pendleton and in 1919 he married Leah Wilcock. We see from records his occupation is a chemist.
In 1921, still living with his parents he is seen to be a chemists assistant.
In 1939, they have moved to 22 Grinden Avenue in Salford and is still a chemists assistant.
His wife Leah died in 1951 and in 1955, he married Gladys Louisa Waugh.
He died in 1975.
