Correctly named J50814 JO Williams Ord RN

John Orchard Williams was born to Edward and Alice in Troon, Cornwall in 1896.

We find him in 1911 living at Fore Street in Troon and working as a tin miner.

Enlisting in early 1916, John spent his war aboard HMS Active from October 1916 until he was de-mobbed in February 1919.

HMS Active was a scout cruiser which was active when German destroyers attacked the Dover Patrol in February 1917 with John aboard. The cruiser although active was not engaged.

After his service, he was to move to America and arrived in New York in 1923 aboard the SS Majestic.

He became a US citizen in 1942 and we find a draft card that year for him.

His address in 1942 was 1465 E66th Place, Chicago, Illinois.

John died in 1967.

His Pair, his full entitlement, has long original silk ribbons.
